Cherokee Nation safeguards its seeds in the Seed Vault

Members of the UN Secretary General’s Advocacy Group for the Sustainable Development Goals, under the leadership of Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway and President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana together with representatives for the three partners operating the seed vault; Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Nordic Genetic Resource Center and the Global Crop Diversity Trust.

The Deposit were hosted by the Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg and attended by 29 depositors from all the over the world who wished to follow their seeds all the way to Svalbard. Also participants from the UN advocacy group for the UN Goal on Zero Hunger participated including the co-chairs, Erna Solberg and H.E. President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo event. The Prime Minister underlined that “this deposit was especially timely, given that 2020 is the deadline for fulfilling target 2,5 of Sustainable Development Goal 2- Zero Hunger- which calls for the international community to safeguard genetic diversity of crops and livestock.”
